Rule 1 – what can I meme about?

History. But here is a bit more on this…

Any memes that are uploaded to https://historyinmeme.com/ must be related to history. Memes will only be accepted and will not violate our rules if at least one of the conditions below is satisfied:

1. The meme is about a known historical figure from the world history.
2. The meme is about an event in world history.
3. The meme is related to a historical event/person from the world history from before 2001.
4. The meme is about the portrayal of History as a whole in the modern world, or is about the stance of a person, group, or country on the subject of history.
5. The meme is related to Mythology and/or historically grounded religious texts, or characters belonging in Mythology and/or historically grounded religious texts.

Rule 2 – historical accuracy and humour.

a) The idea behind our website is that apart from having fun we also want people to learn factually accurate information.

Memes must be accurate to those historical events or historical figures as described in historical books or any other source of historically accurate information. Memes that have no factual basis and that are based on conspiracy theories/misinformation/works of fiction are prohibited. If the historical event has been established to have never happened/historical figure has never existed, you cannot publish any memes related to them.

Memes related to mythology and historically grounded religious texts are allowed.

b) Submissions that do not make any attempt at humour will be removed. Come on now, we are literally called “historyinmeme”…

Rule 3 – ideologies & religions.

To avoid our forum turning into a platform for rivalling ideologies/religions we have decided not to allow memes that are solely focused on ideologies (such as Communism/Fascism, etc.) or religions (Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, etc.).

Any memes dealing with any subjects under the above categories are prohibited. Unless the above are not the main theme of the meme and are mentioned in passing.

Rule 4 – copies of memes & similarities.

All copies of previous submissions to HiSM are not allowed.

The following are considered “similar” posts for the purposes of this rule:

1. Where the same template/forum has been replicated, with either the same image/template from another meme on HiSM website.
2. If you steal a joke from another meme and essentially re-use it. Don’t be a thief!

Rule 5 – abusive behaviour.

We reserve the right to delete any comments/posts that express racism, excessive sexism, homophobia, or any other forms of discrimination. Same goes for any messages sent to other users. If you are found to show any of the above, your account may be terminated immediately, and you could be banned from our platform indefinitely subject to further investigation.

Play nice and we will play nice too.

Rule 6 – history denial.

A big no-no. under no circumstances can you deny or defend genocides or other kinds of crimes against humanity that have been committed in the past. The above is prohibited in relation to events listed below or similar kinds of events:

1. Holocaust.
2. Armenian Genocide.
3. Tiananmen Square.

…and others.

Rule 6 – linking.

a) In each submission you are asked to link to the historical event/historical figure referred to in the meme. Any deliberately false links/misleading links will lead to us banning you indefinitely.

b) You may be banned if you link to any malicious websites OR external websites in comments/messages to users, unless the website provides historical information on the topic you are discussing (that must concern “history” as per Rule 1).

Rule 7 – quality of your posts.

We want everyone to join this experience as much as possible, so put a little effort into your posts, please. For your posts to pass the quality check make sure that:

1. Posts are of the right size so they can be easily viewed by users.
2. Screenshots without any edits will be outright banned.
3. Posts that are not cropped properly OR with excessive text or blackbars OR solely consisting of text are not allowed.
4. Posts that are blank.
5. Posts that do not carry any message/any spam submissions may result in a permanent ban.

Rule 8 – karma, titles and more.

The point of this website is to create a great meme repository that can be accessed by anyone at any time, without having to filter through spammy messages and karma-whoring posts. The following is prohibited in any form anywhere on the website:

• Asking for upvotes
• Asking for comments
• Clickbaiting

The above applies to titles too. The title has to be somehow linked with the meme that you are posting. The meme must be able to constitute a standalone meme without the title.

The meme itself must be a valid meme – not just a picture that has to be connected with the title. To make sense.

Rule 10 – Suggestions thread.

All suggestions for new features/bug reports can be submitted under the pinned thread here: Suggestions for new features/improvements

Any suggestions that are copies of previous suggestions will be removed, and a warning will be given.

Every user can submit up to three suggestions a month.

If the team finds sufficient evidence that the thread is being abused, you may be banned from the website indefinitely.
