Silphium is a plant that was used in classical antiquity as a seasoning, perfume, aphrodisiac, and medicine. It was used so much by Romans...that it went extinct.The last reported use is that by emperor Nero. Also, it just happened to be an aphrodisiac AND a contraceptive. The irony.
